[0:25]
It's amazing.
[0:27]
Just go to theflophouse.simpletics.com
[0:29]
for Flop TV season two.
[0:31]
This time it's personal.
[0:33]
Hey, hello, I'm Stuart Wellington,
[0:42]
one of the hosts of the Flop House podcast.
[0:44]
And I'm here to introduce and run the Flop House mini,
[0:47]
a mini episode of the Flop House podcast.
[0:50]
And I am joined as always by my two co-hosts
[0:52]
who will introduce themselves now.
[0:55]
Dan McCoy.
[0:57]
Elliot Kalin.
[0:59]
Now, on one of these mini episodes,
[1:01]
instead of watching a bad movie and talking about it,
[1:03]
we kind of do whatever we want.
[1:04]
And today, oh boy, are we doing whatever.
[1:07]
Because in fact, today is a very special thing.
[1:10]
We are doing 2024, the year in movies, the game.
[1:15]
A special game that I'm going to be administering
[1:18]
to my two co-hosts who are going to be-
[1:21]
I always like to have a game administered to me.
[1:23]
Yeah, please.
[1:24]
I mean, if you played some of the board games that I like,
[1:31]
it does kind of require a fair amount of administration.
[1:33]
So yeah, so you guys are going to be playing
[1:37]
for the chance to win big points and bragging rights
[1:40]
over your fellow co-hosts.
[1:42]
And maybe if you're lucky,
[1:44]
a $20 gift card to Blockbuster Video.
[1:50]
It's expired?
[1:51]
It's an expired gift card.
[1:53]
Okay, great, good.
[1:54]
But I mean, you might be able to get some value for it.
[1:57]
I don't know what people like these days.
[1:59]
If I make it all the way up to that Blockbuster in Alaska,
[2:01]
maybe they'll redeem it just for me taking the job.
[2:04]
They'll honor it.
[2:05]
Yeah, they should.
[2:06]
They should.
[2:07]
Okay, so this is a game-
[2:08]
Especially if I bring Pitbull with me.
[2:10]
Oh, Mr. Worldwide.
[2:13]
Okay, so today's game, which is, of course,
[2:17]
as I said before, 2024, the year in movies, the game.
[2:21]
There's going to be two rounds.
[2:23]
In between each round, there will be a bonus round
[2:25]
for a chance for you to win extra points.
[2:27]
And whoever has the most points at the end is the winner.
[2:31]
Big surprise, right?
[2:32]
That's pretty straightforward.
[2:33]
Okay.
[2:33]
So in round one, we are playing the,
[2:37]
the name of the game is Who Am I?
[2:41]
So I'm going to be asking you questions
[2:43]
and I'm going to let you know
[2:44]
whether this is the name of a movie that came out this year
[2:49]
or the name of one of the actors in that movie, okay?
[2:53]
And then what do we say?
[2:55]
So I'm going to ask a question.
[2:57]
You are going to raise your hand to buzz in.
[3:00]
Okay.
[3:01]
Okay.
[3:02]
Now, the interesting thing about this category
[3:04]
is that for each question,
[3:06]
if you manage to get the first question,
[3:09]
get it right on the first question, you get three points.
[3:13]
If you don't get it, the second question,
[3:15]
you get two points.
[3:16]
And if it's on the third question, you get only one point
[3:19]
because it gets harder as it goes on, okay?
[3:22]
If you guess wrong,
[3:23]
you cannot guess any more for this question.
[3:27]
Does that make sense?
[3:28]
Yes.
[3:29]
Okay.
[3:30]
Dan said yes with the same level of tentativeness
[3:32]
that I'm feeling.
[3:33]
Okay.
[3:34]
Well, let's figure this out.
[3:35]
Okay.
[3:36]
So our first question under the Who Am I game,
[3:40]
a sci-fi movie set in the desert.
[3:44]
Elliot.
[3:45]
Dune part two.
[3:46]
Was that this year?
[3:48]
It was, but that is incorrect.
[3:50]
It's actually incredibly correct
[3:52]
based on the information you've given us.
[3:53]
Yeah, I held back
[3:55]
because I assumed this was some sort of fiendish trick.
[3:57]
I assumed it was a trick,
[3:58]
but I think I could also make a good case
[4:00]
that with the information we have right now,
[4:02]
that's what it is.
[4:03]
That's the way tricks work, Elliot.
[4:07]
Okay, Dan, do you want another question?
[4:09]
No, no, I want another question.
[4:12]
What, clue number two?
[4:14]
This is part of an existing franchise
[4:16]
chronicling the rise of a beloved character.
[4:21]
Oh, what's the trick here?
[4:23]
I still don't feel like I have enough information
[4:26]
at this point.
[4:27]
Okay, clue number three then.
[4:30]
You might say this movie is mad to the max.
[4:34]
Oh, okay.
[4:35]
So this is Furiosa.
[4:37]
You didn't buzz in, but I'll give it to you anyway.
[4:39]
That's one more for Dan.
[4:40]
Well, I mean, Elliot can't talk anymore,
[4:42]
I mean, he can talk, but he can't gas anymore.
[4:44]
So I just assumed. I sure can.
[4:46]
Okay, so we're off to a roaring start.
[4:48]
Elliot has fallen into my ultimate trick.
[4:51]
Oh, yeah.
[4:53]
It really was the ultimate trick.
[4:57]
Doesn't get bigger than that.
[4:59]
Okay.
[5:00]
Boy, am I gonna feel foolish the rest of the day.
[5:03]
You're stumbling into that one.
[5:04]
This is the name of an actor, okay?
[5:08]
This actor was the lead
[5:11]
in three theatrical releases this year
[5:15]
in three different genres.
[5:20]
Interesting.
[5:21]
It's probably not Dune Part Two,
[5:24]
because that's a movie, not a person.
[5:26]
Anybody wanna buzz in, or should I give the next clue?
[5:28]
Let's go to the next clue.
[5:30]
Okay.
[5:31]
He co-wrote the screenplay of one of them.
[5:35]
Co-wrote the screenplay?
[5:37]
Oh, my.
[5:43]
This is gonna be great radio,
[5:44]
because there's gonna be a lot of us.
[5:46]
Okay.
[5:46]
I mean, I think I know it,
[5:47]
I just don't remember his name.
[5:50]
And then the third clue.
[5:52]
This was the summer of him,
[5:54]
despite not being voted People's Sexiest Man.
[5:58]
I'm gonna-
[5:59]
Elliot.
[6:00]
It's Glenn something, right?
[6:01]
Uh, you're-
[6:03]
Glenn something, I guess he's accurate
[6:05]
as according to Elliot's rules of-
[6:07]
Technically correct.
[6:09]
Glenn Powell.
[6:10]
Powell, yeah.
[6:11]
Elliot, that's one point.
[6:12]
Glenn Powell.
[6:13]
Yeah.
[6:13]
Okay, yeah.
[6:14]
He co-wrote Hitman with Richard Linklater.
[6:18]
He is somehow everywhere,
[6:21]
and all over the place,
[6:21]
and being in lots of movies,
[6:22]
and I cannot remember his name often,
[6:24]
because it's just a pretty normal name, you know?
[6:28]
Yeah.
[6:29]
Yeah, pretty normal name.
[6:31]
As opposed to like Timothy Chalamet,
[6:33]
where I'm like,
[6:33]
well, I've never met anybody with that name.
[6:35]
Yeah.
[6:36]
Yeah, yeah.
[6:37]
Okay, okay.
[6:38]
The next one, you need to give me the name of the movie.
[6:40]
This is a popular sequel,
[6:43]
long-awaited popular sequel,
[6:46]
to a classic movie.
[6:48]
Long-awaited.
[6:50]
Okay.
[6:51]
It could be a couple different things.
[6:52]
A classic movie.
[6:56]
Yeah, I don't think we have enough information.
[6:58]
Clue number two.
[7:00]
This movie has twists in it.
[7:08]
But doesn't have Glen Powell in it?
[7:09]
It feels like a real misdirect.
[7:12]
A lot of movies have twists.
[7:14]
Third clue.
[7:16]
The name of this movie is
[7:17]
the name of one of the characters repeated.
[7:20]
Okay, I'm gonna raise my hand again.
[7:21]
Elliot.
[7:22]
I'm gonna say Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
[7:24]
You nailed it.
[7:25]
You guys almost fell into my twisters trap.
[7:28]
Almost.
[7:29]
Now guys, I didn't see twisters.
[7:30]
I guess there is a twist in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
[7:33]
now that I think about it.
[7:34]
Yeah, I guess fair enough.
[7:36]
There's at least one thing that could be called a twist.
[7:41]
No, I didn't see twisters.
[7:42]
Does it feature a tornado
[7:44]
that has like a man's head sticking out of it?
[7:46]
Like that X-Men character?
[7:48]
What's that guy's, Riptide?
[7:49]
One of the marauders, Elliot?
[7:50]
What's that guy's fucking deal?
[7:53]
What is his name?
[7:54]
I can't remember.
[7:55]
Whirlpool.
[7:56]
It might be something like Whirlpool
[7:57]
or something like that.
[7:58]
Spicezilla or Charybdis or something?
[8:00]
No, no, it's not that.
[8:01]
Despite my 4DX screening of twisters
[8:06]
being disrupted by a weird family
[8:10]
having some argument with another weird family
[8:12]
for the first half of the movie,
[8:14]
I think I'm pretty confident in saying
[8:16]
that that does not happen in twisters.
[8:18]
Okay.
[8:19]
I don't know, we'll have to ask Paul Schrader,
[8:20]
number one twisters fan.
[8:22]
Number one twisters fan, okay.
[8:24]
I think that was Riptide, the one that could spin around.
[8:27]
I thought so, too.
[8:28]
Okay, this next-
[8:30]
Is that his title, Riptide, the man who could spin around?
[8:33]
I'm sorry.
[8:34]
Yeah, exactly.
[8:34]
Riptide, real name Janos Quested,
[8:37]
according to Wikipedia, which, come on.
[8:39]
Sounds like a normal name.
[8:41]
Yeah.
[8:42]
Normal name.
[8:42]
The thing is, it's not that everybody can spin around,
[8:45]
but the thing about him is that his body spins around
[8:47]
and his head stays stable.
[8:48]
And he spins around very fast, is the other thing.
[8:50]
He spins around very fast.
[8:52]
I can spin pretty fast.
[8:54]
Okay.
[8:55]
Okay.
[8:56]
Okay, this next one is,
[8:58]
you gotta give me the name of the actor.
[9:02]
The lead in the third movie
[9:05]
in a popular superhero franchise.
[9:08]
Okay, popular superhero franchise.
[9:11]
There was a time when that would have narrowed it down
[9:13]
quite a bit more.
[9:15]
It's tough.
[9:16]
Well, I mean, it does, it is, wait, hold on.
[9:18]
What was the question again?
[9:20]
Lead in the third movie
[9:22]
of a popular superhero franchise.
[9:24]
I'm gonna buzz in just because I feel like
[9:26]
there actually haven't been that many superhero movies
[9:29]
recently compared to a year or two ago.
[9:32]
I'm gonna say Tom Hardy.
[9:33]
Are we talking about Tom Hardy?
[9:34]
You fucking nailed it.
[9:36]
Hell yeah, that's three points for Dan.
[9:38]
The other clues were, in these movies,
[9:41]
he has a pretty funny accent.
[9:45]
And then the final clue,
[9:47]
has a chance to go three for three
[9:49]
in the flop house with these movies.
[9:51]
I think it'll probably happen.
[9:52]
Good luck.
[9:53]
Okay, we're all counting on him.
[9:54]
Okay, the next is, good luck to Tom Hardy.
[9:58]
Yeah, all our best wishes go to Tom.
[10:00]
Achieving that goal this one you guys have to you guys got to give me the name of the movie
[10:05]
Okay
[10:06]
Tom Hart unlike
[10:11]
Unlikely friends team up to save the universe
[10:16]
Yeah
[10:17]
hard one second
[10:19]
I'm wondering about the definition of friends. Yeah, the opening credits feature the song bye-bye-bye. Oh
[10:27]
I'll raise my hand for that one. Oh, yeah, that's a
[10:31]
Deadpool Wolverine, right? That is Deadpool and Wolverine still haven't seen it
[10:36]
I heard all about the hilarious opening credits. We're what he's dancing or something. Can you believe that?
[10:46]
Yeah, it's especially when you're like hey if you're gonna do kind of the same
[10:49]
Oh, but if you're gonna use this song just like Red Rocket did you should be as good as Red Rocket, which it's not
[10:55]
Okay, Red Rocket is the movie based on the DC character Red Rocket, right like the Soviet guy
[11:00]
Ella you should watch it. Let me know what you think
[11:02]
Okay. So the next is you're gonna have to give me the name of the actor. Okay, okay
[11:10]
Before starring in a movie this year. She had not starred in a film in four years. Oh
[11:17]
Hmm
[11:19]
It's an interesting clue
[11:22]
But I don't have an answer for you. Yeah, no me either clue number two
[11:27]
While attending press events for this film for this the film. She's in she brought along her micro chihuahua pilaf
[11:37]
Feel like I'm farther from knowing it now. Yeah
[11:41]
It sounds familiar, but I cannot connect it with anything
[11:45]
Final clue
[11:46]
Despite her first name. She plays the bigger version or the matrix in this movie
[11:55]
Dan Dan, I'm just just guessing based on the name thing. Is it mini driver?
[12:01]
That's actually pretty good. But it's not it's okay Elliot. Do you want a final buzz?
[12:06]
I also was thinking it was mini something. So not the anyone named small anyone named small
[12:13]
They're tiny lady, yeah a little tiny Tina
[12:20]
Okay, so wait, so she's
[12:22]
Clues too hard. She has started a movie in four years. She brought Oh Demi Moore. Thank you
[12:30]
boom crushed
[12:33]
Good job. Good job Elliot extra points. You know, what was the clue that got it to me was the dog
[12:38]
That's the one that's I knew I knew the breed and name of her dog. Yeah
[12:43]
Okay, so the next is you're gonna have to give me the name of the movie
[12:48]
The majority of this movie takes place in Australia
[12:55]
Okay, so it could be any number of Australian movies yeah or movies that's true just about Australia
[13:01]
Yeah clue number two
[13:03]
There is a karaoke scene of the song against all odds by Phil Collins. Hmm. I got you Dan
[13:10]
This is the this is the fall guy. You nailed it Dan. Oh, good job. It's neck-and-neck here folks
[13:17]
The the final clue should have been a hit. Yeah, I really like that movie. Oh
[13:23]
Okay
[13:24]
Let's see. Oh, man, we're wrapping up here. Okay next this is uh, this is a movie
[13:28]
You're gonna have to give me the name of a movie. Okay?
[13:32]
lots of scenes on a
[13:35]
cranberry farm
[13:38]
Dan this is my old ass. It is my old ass
[13:43]
Well, okay, very farm-centered movies. You can see I was at a movie. I kept thinking it was a TV show
[13:49]
the other clues
[13:52]
The the only the clues are it dispels the time-travel rules established in the movie time cop. Okay
[14:00]
So let's
[14:02]
What was that? Oh it there's fewer splits in this movie than in time cop
[14:06]
You would be surprised
[14:08]
finally
[14:10]
Aubrey Plaza's characters referred to as having an old ass
[14:13]
Despite only being 39. I take offense at that
[14:17]
Okay, the next is we we got another movie
[14:22]
This is a thriller where the villain is an elder scammer
[14:28]
The villain scams elderly people or is an elderly person who scams I feel like there are two possibilities for this
[14:35]
Honestly, so I'm gonna guess we're gonna another almost fell into my trap
[14:40]
Yeah
[14:43]
Malcolm McDowell Parker Posey and Richard Roundtree are in sporting roles
[14:48]
Okay, I'm gonna guess for this one. Dan
[14:51]
Thelma you are correct. It could have movie the beak. It almost was the keeper
[14:56]
It could have been Felicia Rashad being scammed. But instead it was June Squibb
[15:01]
I haven't seen Thelma yet. I hear only good things. It's fun
[15:06]
Thelma and Louise it's about before she meets Louise. This is a long
[15:13]
Yeah, she actually survived at the end
[15:17]
That's a big retcon. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I mean it's all covered in a montage in the opening credits
[15:24]
Where she fashions a parachute out of?
[15:27]
Okay, here's our final question for this category before our bonus round
[15:32]
Okay, you got to give me the name question is the final question, but then there's another one
[15:37]
Yeah, this is the you got to give me the name of the actor, okay?
[15:44]
Despite being pivotal to the movie. He only has 10 minutes of screen time
[15:50]
Only 10 minutes of screen time
[15:53]
Only 10 minutes of screen time
[15:58]
Okay
[15:59]
number two
[16:01]
Mm-hmm. He is under heavy prosthetics the whole movie
[16:06]
your heavy prosthetics
[16:10]
It's not TV's the penguin because that was on TV that's on TV. I mean, it's not TV. It's HBO
[16:18]
Elliot give me that
[16:20]
Stellan Skarsgård
[16:23]
Or whatever. No, what is his name?
[16:25]
I'm sorry. It's not Stellan Skarsgård. Finally. I was thinking this is this was finally the dune question that I've been wondering all this
[16:31]
Oh, that would have been a good one
[16:33]
That would have been a good one technically correct, but not the final the final
[16:38]
We'll clear it up is long legs
[16:40]
I just got to remember to always wait for the last
[16:46]
Nicholas Cage he's long legs. Okay. So now the bone. Here's the bonus round
[16:51]
This is where things are gonna get a little bit closer
[16:54]
Like it really yeah, that was a real trick, especially considering the third clue would mention the name of the movie in it. Yeah
[17:01]
Okay
[17:02]
So this this next the bonus round is the one that's gonna be a little bit more difficult
[17:07]
So this this next the bonus round
[17:11]
Elliot you're gonna it's gonna start with you and then
[17:14]
You're gonna have two minutes
[17:16]
to name as many feature films
[17:20]
released by
[17:22]
move a film fan darlings a
[17:25]
24
[17:27]
For each one you name
[17:29]
you get a point and then after your two minutes is up day and we'll get to try and name as many ones as you
[17:34]
Missed and that's it. That's a let me here. That's this year. Yeah, okay
[17:41]
I'm just gonna I'm gonna give me give me one second. Oh, this is not gonna be your category
[17:46]
Did I mean this is not the year to ask me what movies came out when from anybody?
[17:50]
So I'm probably gonna zero points. That's the challenge of the game of
[17:55]
2020 for the year in movies. Did they because I know how no, it's true
[17:59]
I knew what I was getting into I knew I was getting into when I applied for this game Stewart knowing the name
[18:04]
And so I want to do that
[18:06]
yeah, even even knowing that you were not gonna be good at this you're like
[18:10]
I just want to be on TV and unfortunately, you're on a podcast
[18:14]
Okay, so I'm going to hit start and then Elliot you just start naming shit. Okay, go
[18:21]
the substance
[18:23]
challenges gladiator to
[18:25]
Borderlands noon part 2 June part 3 June
[18:30]
June part 5
[18:32]
Nosferatu, is that one of theirs not out yet? No was let's see
[18:37]
What other movies came out this year Godzilla X Kong?
[18:41]
No some stuff
[18:43]
The fall guy the fall girl
[18:46]
the guys of the fall seasons of the fall seasons of no mists legends of the fall
[18:54]
Falling down
[18:56]
Down and out in Beverly Hills Beverly Hills cop
[18:59]

[19:32]
Sensations
[19:35]
Lightning the movie
[19:38]
Twisters misters
[19:44]
Love life
[19:50]
My dinner with Andre
[19:53]
They and I'm not and I think that's it I got all of them, right? Yeah. I mean you got you got one
[20:00]
Thank goodness. Okay, so that is Elliot's tapping out. Elliot got a point. Dan
[20:06]
Clock starts now
[20:09]
They do cuckoo. No, I
[20:12]
Okay, I saw the TV glow. Was that them? Yep
[20:16]
Let's see long legs before I mentioned long legs. No
[20:22]
True why why 2k it did you do that?
[20:26]
Oof now, I'm now I'm having trouble. Uh
[20:33]
What all happened this year, let's see. Well, there's some terrible national decisions that were made
[20:47]
Got you got about a minute left and so they do a lot of
[20:54]
Or generally art house
[20:57]
They do an aura with that neon that was me on
[21:02]
Gotta give me credit. I said I named fewer a24 movies than Dan, but I named more movies than Dan. Yeah
[21:07]
Well, I should get points for that. Yeah, I feel like I might actually know these is the thing. So that's why I'm
[21:15]
But I'm having trouble
[21:19]
What else did I see
[21:23]
Many of these were big movies and by big movies movies that play in movie theaters not necessarily big movies
[21:31]
Did they do challengers or is that neon to that was me?
[21:34]
I don't even I think that was a one of the bigger studios. Yeah. Yeah, that was a that was probably just but
[21:42]
But there was a movie that is let's say related
[21:46]
We're yes
[21:49]
Okay, yeah, that's three of these for Dan killing it you gonna tell you out, okay, let's call it let's call it
[21:56]
Okay, you know what? So we got me by as much as I thought he would
[22:00]
I'm actually kind of surprised. So we got movies like baby girl heretic the brutalist we live in time
[22:07]
Front room Partha nope a different man. I'm becoming a guinea fowl
[22:11]
Civil War
[22:13]
Maxine
[22:15]
Look into my eyes the sixth and architect on
[22:19]
Okay, so at the end of it. Yeah, there's a lot of movies
[22:24]
17
[22:25]
So at the end of the first round and the bonus round we have Dan McCoy at 15 points Elliot at 6 points time for a
[22:32]
break
[22:33]
Hmm. Hey, so we have a jumbotron here LA. Can you give us the classic jumbotron sound effect?
[22:45]
And
[23:05]
Okay, so this is a jumbotron for Chelsea aka choom Watts and this is from your brother Kyle
[23:12]
Happy birthday to the best sister. I can imagine having you're a brilliant nuclear scientist
[23:18]
Exciting overseas adventurer and the one person in our family who I get to text in excitement when a new flophouse episode drops
[23:27]
Hoping Stuart can give you some words of encouragement in German for when you run the Vienna Marathon next year and Stuart Wellington
[23:34]
Of course is gonna say ah
[23:37]
Chelsea
[23:39]
And you can do I'm trying to speak in Deutsch spoken and we're staying about I hope you have the best time
[23:46]
being marathon and that you run super fast and that you are
[23:51]
to have many pretzels and
[23:54]
beer to drink and
[23:56]
Pass on does yeah, I was just like net choose
[24:01]
The wonderful as they say
[24:05]
Well, technically Austria, but that's the same thing. Okay, not not the same thing. Sorry. I don't want to get I don't want to
[24:11]
Get Germans mad at me again
[24:14]
Okay, I love I love that I love that jerk English with a German accent is just as good as speaking German
[24:20]
It's pretty much the same thing
[24:26]
Hey Sydney, you're a physician and the co-host of sawbones a marital tour of misguided medicine, right?
[24:31]
That's true. Justin. Is it true that our medical history podcast is just as good as a visit to your primary care physician
[24:37]
No, Justin, that is absolutely not true
[24:40]
however
[24:40]
Our podcast is funny and interesting and a great way to learn about the medical misdeeds of the past as well as some current
[24:48]
Not so legit health care facts
[24:50]
So you're saying that by listening to our podcast people feel better sure and isn't that the same reason that you go to the doctor?
[24:55]
Well, you could say that and our podcast is free. Yes. It is free
[25:00]
You heard it here first folks sawbones marital tour of misguided medicine right here on maximum fun
[25:05]
Just as good as going to the doctor. No, no, no still not just as good as going to the doctor
[25:09]
But but pretty good. It's up there. You can't really know if your own show is any good
[25:14]
So I asked my kids about ours is Jordan Jessica a good show. No, definitely not. It's really bad
[25:21]
I would say out of ten maybe like a four out of ten
[25:26]
It's just really boy
[25:31]
Subscribe to Jordan Jesse go a comedy show for grown-ups
[25:36]
and also just a quick mention that as of this episode tickets are probably still available to see us live and in person in San
[25:43]
Francisco as part of a sketch fest
[25:46]
Tickets at SF sketch fest calm will be at Cobb's Comedy Club on Sunday
[25:53]
January 19 at 7 p.m
[25:55]
With some all new presentations from at least two-thirds of us
[26:01]
Elliot might retool an old one
[26:03]
That you probably haven't seen anyway and a discussion of legendary flop cutthroat Island
[26:09]
Directed by Rennie Harlan and starring Gina Davis and Matthew Modine the movie that according to Wikipedia
[26:16]
lost
[26:18]
147 million dollars when adjusted for inflation. So again tickets for that at SF sketch fest
[26:26]
calm
[26:28]
So we are playing
[26:30]
2024 the year in movies a game. I'm your host or Wellington and I'm joined by my two co-hosts
[26:37]
introduce yourselves
[26:38]
Dan McCoy and Elliot Kalin in the lead
[26:42]
sure, so
[26:43]
We we have one more full round to go and then there's going to be an extra bonus round where
[26:50]
Scores can get a little bit closer. Maybe we'll find out
[26:54]
So this next round which is this is gonna be based on the result so far. I think it's gonna be pretty good
[27:00]
We are playing a game called name that
[27:04]
Streamer I will name a movie and you are going to tell me what streaming service
[27:10]
Released this movie or had a while in the production
[27:13]
Yeah, okay. You only get one guess and again, I will list the movie. You will have to buzz in by raising your hand
[27:22]
Whole thing
[27:26]
And
[27:27]
you
[27:28]
And each one is gonna be worth two points
[27:31]
Okay, so points are points are in a way doubled this round. Okay, so in in a very literal way
[27:38]
Yeah, well
[27:40]
Okay. So our first our first feature film
[27:45]
Rebel Ridge
[27:49]
That's a Netflix that's a Netflix
[27:54]
That's that's what my parents call all movies on streaming
[27:58]
And rebel moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie. That's a Netflix. Yeah, okay
[28:04]
Ricky Stanicki
[28:06]
Uh
[28:07]
Elliot was that a peacock?
[28:11]
Unfortunately, no, but good guess Dan
[28:13]
Amazon Prime Prime video you are you are correct. It is prime video. I don't know Dan answered like three different answers there. I don't know
[28:22]
Okay, Salem's lot
[28:26]
Lots of Salem's Dan, I believe that's a max
[28:31]
That is a max Daniel you watch a lot of movies. I didn't see that one. I heard it was bad
[28:39]
I like bits of it. Okay, but you didn't you like Salem's little basically what you're saying? Yeah
[28:46]
Enough, you know
[28:49]
The killer the killer. Okay, John Woo's remake of his own movie Elliot. Oh
[28:55]
Never mind. I thought it was a different one
[28:57]
John Woo
[28:59]
You're thinking of the killer
[29:01]
Yeah, the Fincher I was thinking about the David Fincher at the killer. Yeah
[29:05]
no, this is John Woo's remake of his own movie starring Natalie Emmanuelle and
[29:10]
the guy from the the guy from those
[29:14]
Pandora movies
[29:16]
Yeah, was this Paramount Plus?
[29:19]
Incorrect, and I'm sorry LA
[29:21]
There was a chance to steal chance to see I might as well guess something
[29:26]
Let's say Hulu is a Hulu. Unfortunately. No, it was Peacock one of the guys only original movies this year
[29:34]
Okay, I was associated with a network, but I picked the wrong one. I didn't even know
[29:39]
the idea of you
[29:46]
I'm just gonna guess like this sounds
[29:49]
This sounds like in an Apple TV Plus to me
[29:54]
Does sound like that, but it's not okay Elliot chance to steal
[30:00]
Show me to me.
[30:03]
No, this is an Amazon Prime.
[30:05]
But once again, good guess.
[30:08]
OK, let's see.
[30:10]
We got Good Grief starring Dan Levy or Levy.
[30:16]
Oh, good grief.
[30:17]
Yeah, that thing.
[30:18]
I don't I don't know what that is.
[30:21]
She's it's about it's about.
[30:23]
OK, Dan, yes, I Netflix.
[30:27]
Dan, it is, in fact, a Netflix.
[30:29]
Yeah.
[30:31]
OK, guys, Beverly Hills cop Axel F.
[30:37]
That Dan, that I believe is also a Netflix man, Dan's all over Netflix.
[30:43]
What are you getting money from Netflix?
[30:46]
Well, you did the game way.
[30:50]
Yeah, he's getting money from Netflix.
[30:52]
Yeah. In a violent nature made by friends of the pod in a violent nature.
[30:59]
Roku channel.
[31:02]
Nope, Dan.
[31:03]
I feel bad for buzzing in so much, but I'm pretty sure that shutter.
[31:07]
That's it's got to be.
[31:09]
You got to be into it.
[31:10]
And you know, you know, it is available and how to get it.
[31:14]
Yeah. Irish Wish starring Lindsay Lohan.
[31:21]
Do it. Yeah, Netflix.
[31:25]
You know, Netflix, this dude, what's going on?
[31:28]
The thing about winning this game is it makes me feel worse
[31:31]
than if I was losing this game.
[31:32]
Like, oh, yeah, I also like.
[31:35]
Yeah. And I all I have is this.
[31:40]
Oh, I made a good game.
[31:44]
Guys, smile to.
[31:47]
Oh, that wasn't a release.
[31:48]
It was a theatrical release, but it was.
[31:51]
Oh, this is a partnership with with one of the streamers.
[31:54]
Oh. I am DBTV.
[32:02]
Unfortunately, no.
[32:03]
Dan, do you have a follow up?
[32:05]
If it's a partnership, I'm just going to guess Amazon.
[32:09]
Unfortunately, Paramount Plus.
[32:11]
Oh, that's my plus.
[32:13]
I mean, Paramount, Paramount makes movies.
[32:15]
It's a movie studios.
[32:17]
Are they just called Paramount Plus now or.
[32:19]
Well, I believe the original smile was a Paramount Plus original.
[32:23]
And then this was like a. Oh, I see.
[32:25]
OK, we got a movie called Jackpot.
[32:30]
Oh, oh, no.
[32:32]
Wait, was that Apple plus Apple, Apple TV Plus?
[32:34]
It is not. You're so close.
[32:36]
I'm thinking I'm thinking of luck or whatever it's called or, you know.
[32:40]
Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
[32:42]
The and I even watch the and I watch this one.
[32:44]
I can't even remember what it's what was on.
[32:46]
There was a in a way there was a clue with one of my earlier questions.
[32:51]
In a way, there was a clue with one of your one of the stars
[32:55]
was also in a clearly under contract of some flavor.
[32:58]
I'm going to say, is it Hulu?
[33:01]
Nope. This is Amazon Prime because it's I'm guessing John Cena is
[33:06]
has some kind of connection or which one is which one is which one was Jackpot
[33:10]
is an action where not actually that is it's the action comedy with Aquafina
[33:15]
where she wins the lottery, but she has to stay alive for 24 hours.
[33:20]
Oh, everything you told me brings no bells.
[33:23]
I don't think I've I don't think I've heard of the movie.
[33:25]
Yeah, you may have heard of Paul Feig.
[33:26]
He was in Ski Patrol.
[33:29]
Oh, right. OK. Yeah.
[33:32]
The one address. I got a fancy.
[33:34]
Yeah, I got a movie called Winona Earp Vengeance.
[33:40]
Netflix. No.
[33:43]
I thought I'd beat down to that one.
[33:45]
I'm going to guess this is a I'm going to guess this is a movie that you made up.
[33:49]
It doesn't actually exist.
[33:52]
The thing is, this streaming service has a catalog
[33:54]
that is filled with movies that sound like that because it's to be.
[33:59]
That was to be to be original Winona Earp Vengeance.
[34:03]
OK, we got a movie called Bratz.
[34:10]
Bratz. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[34:12]
Yeah, I got this. This is this is Hulu.
[34:14]
This is that documentary.
[34:15]
But it is I was trying to throw you off.
[34:18]
I was doing one of my classic tricks.
[34:22]
But yes, this is this is what?
[34:24]
Andrew McCarthy's documentary about.
[34:26]
Yeah, Bratz.
[34:28]
Where he is about the dolls.
[34:30]
Yeah, I think actually there's a post credit scene
[34:33]
where he is talking about the dolls.
[34:34]
But, you know, it's only like they like they invented the word Bratz.
[34:38]
And he's like, look at these dolls after me.
[34:42]
Yeah. OK. And a bunch of brats at the grocery store is like, yeah.
[34:46]
Nate has made some broth and they're like this.
[34:48]
I don't make any money off of these brats.
[34:53]
That's it's because he's he's charging too much.
[34:55]
Yeah. Yeah. If he charges less than like, you know, he's just not selling.
[35:00]
If each individually signs the numbers, every brat.
[35:03]
That's why he charges so much.
[35:05]
I mean, I guess that makes sense.
[35:06]
But I don't know. That seems nuts.
[35:08]
OK. And our final one doesn't sell nuts.
[35:10]
He sells brats, although maybe if he sold nuts with the brats.
[35:14]
Oh, interesting. OK.
[35:17]
Kind of mash it up into a pesto or something.
[35:20]
OK. So we have.
[35:22]
OK. Or or like a butter, like a nut butter.
[35:24]
You guys like, you know, butter, right?
[35:26]
Dance. Nuts and butter.
[35:30]
Sounds dirty. I don't want to get into this.
[35:32]
OK, that's weird.
[35:33]
OK. And the final movie is a movie that I watched while I was in Australia.
[35:39]
There's a movie called.
[35:40]
This is a movie called Players, starring Gina Rodriguez
[35:45]
and I think Damon Wayans, Jr.
[35:47]
Oh, I don't know this at all.
[35:53]
I'm going to say, oh, no, Dan, what do you think?
[35:56]
No, I don't have a I was like, what does it sound like?
[35:58]
It it's all I can't think of.
[36:01]
That's what does it.
[36:03]
Context clues from the movie called Players,
[36:06]
starring Damon Wayans, Jr. and Gina Rodriguez.
[36:10]
Oh, I know it. I'm going to say Brit box.
[36:12]
Mm. Nope, it's not.
[36:14]
Corncob TV either.
[36:16]
Dan, so don't guess that you think of a corn.
[36:23]
I was like, I was going to say, I was like, oh, maybe that is
[36:26]
what Stewart thinks a corn TV is.
[36:27]
Corncob TV.
[36:29]
It's like the hee haw channel.
[36:31]
I'm going to say it's a Hulu.
[36:33]
We haven't had a Hulu.
[36:34]
This is Netflix.
[36:35]
You're fucking boys.
[36:37]
I know you're trying to throw us off the trail, Dan,
[36:39]
but we know you, we know you're a Netflix boy.
[36:41]
OK, so not your strongest round,
[36:45]
but guys, I think everything's about to change.
[36:47]
OK, this is where you, Elliot, gets to go first.
[36:51]
Again, it's going to have two minutes.
[36:54]
You have two minutes to name as many films
[36:59]
that we covered on main episodes and live episodes
[37:02]
of the Flophouse podcast this year.
[37:05]
Oh, boy. Not going to do so well with this either.
[37:07]
Oh, well, are we allowed to look them up online?
[37:12]
No. Oh, OK.
[37:13]
But I thank you for asking.
[37:15]
Actually, that's in this modern digital era age.
[37:18]
I mean, I feel like a lot of people think they can just look everything up online.
[37:22]
But no, you're actually going to have to use your memory banks.
[37:25]
Some of these are movies that I think you're going to be really excited
[37:28]
that you remember.
[37:29]
OK, so I'm going to hit or I'm going to hit
[37:32]
I'm going to hit the timer and then you just go you go crazy.
[37:35]
OK. And go.
[37:38]
Borderlands, Dear David, Madam Web,
[37:44]
Rebel Moon, The Scargiver.
[37:47]
Yeah. The Last Mermaid.
[37:49]
Did we do that one this year?
[37:52]
I don't remember. No.
[37:54]
The other movies that we covered on this podcast this year.
[38:01]
Let's see.
[38:03]
Were there any others?
[38:04]
Did we do any other episodes this year?
[38:08]
We definitely did, Elliot.
[38:09]
I know it all blurs together.
[38:12]
Oh, well, that the Flash.
[38:15]
Let's see some other type of venom.
[38:21]
Let there be carnage.
[38:22]
Is that this year or last year? I can't remember.
[38:24]
It was not this year.
[38:25]
It's not this year.
[38:27]
How about let's see other movies that came out this year that we covered?
[38:34]
What did we do in small Vember?
[38:36]
I don't even remember those.
[38:37]
Sonic the Hedgehog, too.
[38:39]
Was that this year? Was that last year?
[38:41]
I was last year.
[38:43]
Oh, boy. It's time goes by so fast.
[38:46]
Let's see. Did we do
[38:50]
oh, that one under the streets of Paris or whatever beneath Paris?
[38:54]
Yeah. Under Paris.
[38:55]
Under Paris. Yeah.
[38:58]
Let's see.
[38:59]
There was also
[39:04]
something with a ghost in it.
[39:06]
Dear David, did I say that?
[39:08]
That one said that one.
[39:11]
Let's see. I say I say Borderlands.
[39:14]
Yeah, I said that one.
[39:17]
Let's see. Was there
[39:20]
Madam Web? That one.
[39:21]
Did that one get mentioned?
[39:23]
Yeah, I think so.
[39:24]
Let's yeah, it's Mark down. Yeah.
[39:26]
OK. When you mark it down again, give me give me two points for that one.
[39:29]
Let's see. Also,
[39:35]
oh, no, that was years ago.
[39:37]
Let's see. Yeah.
[39:40]
Elliot, that is your time.
[39:41]
You did actually get better at this one than the last one, but maybe not.
[39:45]
At least I'm drawing from my own lived experience for this one.
[39:49]
OK, Dan. Now you you're you're so far ahead.
[39:53]
You don't even need to play this part.
[39:55]
But if you want to if you if you just want to stun on Elliot with your
[39:59]
to show off.
[40:00]
good your memory is. I think I'll do a couple. I think there's the there's the
[40:05]
Avengers the most the we just dropped that one. Yep. We got a Night Swim didn't
[40:14]
mention that. Oh and I just thought of another one I didn't mention. Yeah
[40:16]
Megalopolis. Hell yeah. Crap. Did Elliot mention Robot in the Family? No I didn't.
[40:22]
Nope. I can't remember what the other small timber was though for
[40:28]
whatever reason. There's the first one. Oh yeah. It was also this year. Yep. You
[40:33]
already mentioned the Scargiver. No I thought the first one was last year. First one was the
[40:37]
first episode of this year. Yeah I think that's all I really got off the top of my head.
[40:42]
Can I mention one more? Yeah. What? Was 65 also this year? No. 65 is not. So let me go down
[40:50]
some of the ones we missed here. We got Kangaroo Jack, Jiggly, Cobra, Cat Person.
[40:56]
Oh no there is Sonic the Hedgehog too. Elliot gets a point. Roadhouse, Argyle, Baby Genius,
[41:04]
The Matrix Revolutions, Dan's favorite movie, Boat Trip, Disclosure, The Garbage Bail Kids
[41:13]
movie. We did a lot of older movies this year. That's that. I was trying to think of newer movies.
[41:18]
Wish If, another favorite dangerous game, The Legacy Murders. That was the other one.
[41:24]
And that's it. That's it guys. But you guys actually, you guys got at least half of them.
[41:28]
Good job. So with the total scores here, let me just tabulate. Elliot with 12,
[41:35]
Dan for missing a couple. He still manages to get, oh shit, 37. 37 points for Dan.
[41:45]
I've never felt so much shame about winning something. Dan did so good at the streaming
[41:50]
service. It's like he's on, he's on, he's on the streamers all day long here. Yeah. Yet again,
[41:55]
there's like a lot of important real life stuff. I forget all the time. It frustrates people who
[41:59]
know me. No, but you know which streamers the movies are on. That's something to do.
[42:04]
So guys, I think, I think everybody can agree that 2024 was quite a year in movies. The game.
[42:14]
Okay. So thank you so much for joining me on this mini adventure. Obviously if you see Dan
[42:19]
McCoy, make sure to give him a high five for doing so well in this game. I think he did a
[42:23]
really good job. Maybe send him a message. Just yell out. Hey Dan, enjoy the Netflix.
[42:30]
Yeah. Yeah. If yeah. Make sure that everybody, make sure to remind Dan to plug Netflix when
[42:36]
he gets a chance because that's clearly who's buttering his bread these days.
[42:41]
So this has been a Flophouse mini. It has been produced by Alex Smith who may or may not have
[42:47]
added in great buzzer sounds or not. I am Stuart Wellington and joining me are my co-hosts as
[42:54]
always. Dan McCoy. And Elliot Kalin being humble in loss and just saying Dan, you're a master.
[43:02]
I just can't. It's no, it's no, it's no shame to be beaten by the best.
[43:08]
Yeah. He's the best round. Okay. Uh, thanks so much. See you next week. Bye.
