[0:00] And now, the Flophouse Movie Minute.
[0:03] Flop House Movie Minute
[0:09] Meow, meow.
[0:14] That's not even close.
[0:15] Oh, hi, Flopper. Didn't see you there.
[0:17] We were just practicing the call of the Flophouse house cat.
[0:20] It's not going very well.
[0:22] I'm Matt Carmen, and this is Ksenia Yarosh.
[0:24] Hello.
[0:25] We're the co-editors of I Love Bad Movies,
[0:27] a bi-yearly print collection of essays and illustrations about great bad movies.
[0:30] It's called a zine, Grandpa.
[0:32] And we're here to tell you about the bad movie night
[0:34] that we're co-hosting with Dan, Stuart, and Elliot.
[0:36] We're all really excited about it.
[0:38] Well, if the Flophouse is so excited about it,
[0:40] why'd they ask us to do the movie minute?
[0:43] They're busy reenacting the slash-fiction scene you wrote about them.
[0:46] Ah.
[0:47] Thursday, June 30th, at 8 p.m.,
[0:48] we'll be screening the Flophouse classic Twin-Sitters
[0:50] about strangely-dressed bodybuilders
[0:52] who end up babysitting two rich kids
[0:54] who are also twins but not bodybuilders.
[0:56] It's complicated.
[0:58] The screening will take place at 92-I Trebeka,
[1:00] 200 Hudson Street in Manhattan,
[1:02] just below Canal Street.
[1:04] But what can people expect when they get there?
[1:06] Matt and I will kick the night off with a slideshow presentation
[1:08] on the great burly caretakers of American film.
[1:11] It will be enlightening and informative.
[1:13] But more importantly, you can arrive slightly late
[1:15] without feeling like you've missed anything.
[1:17] After that, we'll hand it over to the Flophouse guys,
[1:19] who will sit in the front row with microphones
[1:21] and do what you've always wanted to see them do,
[1:23] riff on a movie as it happens.
[1:25] Jokes, insults, lists of things that sound alike.
[1:28] It'll all be happening live.
[1:30] It'll be like everyone in the theater won the Flop
[1:32] with the Floppers contest, all at once.
[1:34] We've watched a few bad movies with these guys,
[1:36] and we can tell you, they're funnier than regular
[1:38] drunk people shouting things at the screen.
[1:40] They'd better be.
[1:41] They won that Grammy for Best Comedy Podcast.
[1:43] I'm not sure that's true.
[1:45] And you'll be able to drink during the screening.
[1:47] 92-I Trebeka serves beer and wine
[1:49] that you can bring into the theater.
[1:51] PBR is only three bucks,
[1:52] and beer that people actually drink is five to seven dollars.
[1:55] Plus, there will be two intermissions.
[1:57] One for a trivia round with us,
[1:58] where you'll be able to win copies of I Love Bad Movies,
[2:00] featuring essays from Dan, Elliot, and other film nerds.
[2:03] Then later in the evening,
[2:04] we'll have a special surprise interview.
[2:07] Trivia, prizes, running jokes, and commentary
[2:09] from the Flophouse.
[2:10] And maybe an appearance from the Flophouse house cat?
[2:13] Rawr, rawr!
[2:14] Hmm, still needs work.
[2:16] See a great bad movie, meet the Floppers,
[2:18] and fellow Flop fans, meet us.
[2:20] They don't know us.
[2:21] All for $12 at 92-I Trebeka in New York,
[2:24] Thursday, June 30th at 8 p.m.
[2:26] We'd recommend buying your tickets online.
[2:27] Follow the link on the Flophouse site.
[2:29] In case you're still on the fence,
[2:31] we'll just let the Flophouse tell you about this awesome movie.
[2:34] Here's part of a movie minute
[2:35] they did about twin sitters back in 2008.
[2:38] Rawr, rawr!
[2:40] My favorite element of Twin Sitters was that
[2:42] the love interest dated both of the twin sitters,
[2:46] the two barbarian brothers,
[2:48] and she seemed equally interested in both of them.
[2:50] And the barbarian brothers appear to be totally cool with that.
[2:54] I was excited about that romantic resolution.
[2:57] So, Stuart, what's your favorite element of Twin Sitters?
[3:00] I don't know.
[3:01] It's a tough call.
[3:02] I like how the barbarian brothers,
[3:04] when confronted with the FBI,
[3:07] when the FBI try and stop them from leaving
[3:10] so that they can go on their date,
[3:11] the barbarian brothers drive over and smash their cars
[3:15] with their giant monster truck.
[3:17] And I think that's a crime.
[3:19] Destruction of government property, I would assume.
[3:21] Yeah, so that was pretty cool.
[3:23] I also just really like the outfits.
[3:25] I mean, whoever was in charge of costumes, bravo.
[3:28] Bravo, there's some great stuff.
[3:30] Like the one costume where he wore that weird, like,
[3:33] Gestapo hat and, like, seven different police badges.
[3:37] He's, like, the sheriff of, like, seven different counties.
[3:40] Or maybe from seven different eras.
[3:43] I don't know.
[3:44] Like, he went back in time
[3:45] and defeated various different sheriffs
[3:48] and took their sheriff's badge or something.
[3:50] I don't know, like, he's an outlaw.
[3:52] L.A., go.
[3:53] I actually was going to bring up the outfits also.
[3:56] Like the off-the-shoulder half-sweatshirt
[3:59] with the pink bandana that the other brother wears.
[4:01] But the great thing about Twin Sitters is it's so rich.
[4:04] There's so much to bite into here.
[4:06] From the evil butler whose job was mainly to react to things
[4:10] in a I-can't-believe-it type way
[4:12] or have trays of dishes upended onto him
[4:15] to the fact that the barbarian brothers
[4:17] have performed most of the soundtrack themselves.
[4:20] But I think probably my favorite thing about it
[4:22] is the idea that identical twins are such an outlandish thing
[4:26] in the world of Twin Sitters
[4:27] that every time a pair of identical twins shows up,
[4:30] people are astounded into inaction.
[4:32] The big climax involves several pairs of identical twins,
[4:35] and whenever a villain sees one of the twins,
[4:38] then looks to the side and sees another one of the twins,
[4:40] there's a look on his face like,
[4:42] What? How can you be in two places at once?
[4:45] What manner of wizardry is this?
[4:47] But they're just twins,
[4:48] and you have to assume these people know that twins exist.
[4:52] They've seen Full House.
[4:53] It's on the air at the time.
[4:55] They know the Olsen twins,
[4:56] and yet everyone is baffled by the existence of twins.
[4:59] Well, to summarize,
[5:00] I just want to say one more thing about that butler.
[5:03] He apparently carries just trays of dishes
[5:07] around the mansion all the time,
[5:09] even when his master is out,
[5:11] which is most of the film.
[5:12] He's just carrying trays of dishes around
[5:14] in the event that he might be surprised by something,
[5:17] so he can drop it or he can pull it back
[5:21] and smash it over his own face.
[5:23] In any slapstick comedy,
[5:24] you're going to get things
[5:25] that would have killed someone in real life.
[5:27] But here, they were a little more extreme.
[5:29] At one point, the twins who are being sat
[5:31] throw a plugged-in radiator into the pool
[5:34] that the Barbarian Brothers are in,
[5:36] and luckily it unplugs just at the last moment,
[5:39] but it would have killed them.
[5:40] Also, the twins refuse to eat the food
[5:43] that the Barbarian Brothers,
[5:44] who are Italian chefs, are serving,
[5:46] and this goes on for days.
[5:48] And the children show no ill effects
[5:50] from not eating for several days at a time,
[5:52] when in reality, they would probably be very sick or frail.
[5:56] They're probably eating Fruit Roll-Ups or some shit, dude.
[5:58] You know kids, they're eating that and, like, Go-Gurt.
[6:01] You know, the yogurt in a tube.
[6:03] 1994. There was no Go-Gurt.
[6:05] I just want to close by saying
[6:07] we've watched a lot of films
[6:09] that we've been disappointed in
[6:10] that have been neither good movies
[6:13] or movies that are funny as bad movies,
[6:15] but I think we can all give a rousing endorsement
[6:17] to Twin Sitters as an excellent example
[6:21] of a bad movie that brings joy and happiness
[6:24] to everyone in the room.
[6:26] So, for this Flophouse Movie Minute,
[6:28] I would like to say goodnight and watch Twin Sitters.
[6:32] This summer, twin is in.
[6:35] Twin Sitters.
