The Flop House -- A FlopTales Teaser!
Transcript
[0:00]
Hey there, everybody. This is Stuart Wellington of the Flophouse Podcast.
[0:03]
I'd like to welcome you to this little teaser of some of the special bonus content that I've been
[0:09]
whipping up. Now, our regular episodes of the show, the three of us watch a bad movie and
[0:14]
talk about it, but in these bonus episodes, I have managed to convince Dan Elliott and our
[0:19]
friend Juben to play this role-playing game with me. Now, the setting of this game is kind of a
[0:26]
weird noir where gumshoes get mixed up with aliens and ghosts. It's a real hoot, I'd say.
[0:35]
Now, if this sounds interesting to you, you can go donate to the show by heading over to
[0:40]
MaximumFun.org backslash donate, and if you're already a donor, thank you very much.
[0:46]
But in the meantime, here is a little sample of what we've been working on.
[0:51]
If I want to show an idea of what Scales has been up to, do you remember the beginning of
[0:56]
Ghostbusters 2? Is it Ray and Winston are performing at a children's birthday party?
[1:01]
I think so, yes.
[1:02]
Yeah, yeah. So that's kind of what the level of what Scales has been able to do lately.
[1:07]
So you have been hired by a local booze baron and casino owner to find a missing employee of his.
[1:17]
Hubert Miller has hired the three of you based on a recommendation of his son, Denton Miller.
[1:26]
Wait a minute, is this related to any other Denton from the previous adventure?
[1:32]
Yes, it was Denton from the previous adventure.
[1:33]
Oh, wow. Oh, good to hear from Denton again.
[1:36]
Didn't we abuse him a lot?
[1:37]
He abused himself mostly.
[1:41]
So Hubert Miller has hired you to find an employee of his,
[1:44]
a solicitor by the name of Rebecca Kretsch, who he had sent to a nearby coastal town,
[1:53]
Connors Ferry. And she, after checking in with him, she disappeared
[2:00]
along with a sizable portion of money that he had sent with her.
[2:06]
And you've been hired to...
[2:08]
He sent her to do what?
[2:09]
He sent her to the town to make an offer to buy some real estate.
[2:16]
And you, in addition to a sizable bonus upon finding information about the whereabouts of
[2:24]
Miss Kretsch and the money, he's also offered a pretty nice daily expenses package for the three
[2:32]
of you. It's a much better job than you've been hired for in the last year or so.
[2:40]
Yeah, we'll take it.
[2:41]
So you find yourselves...
[2:45]
What would have happened if we didn't take it?
[2:48]
Well, I mean, I didn't give you the option.
[2:51]
There's a part of improv where you just yes and go with it.
[3:00]
You find yourselves in Tanzer's automobile, I'm assuming, unless you've sold it and you're
[3:05]
taking the train.
[3:06]
No, no, no. I still keep that.
[3:09]
So you find yourselves in Tanzer's automobile late afternoon driving up to Connor's Ferry.
[3:17]
Now, have you guys done any preparation?
[3:21]
Have you done any research?
[3:23]
What would you have done before heading out to a new town to investigate this job?
[3:30]
I mean, we probably would have, I assumed, investigated Rebecca Kretsch a little bit
[3:34]
to see if she had any shady stuff going on that we would know about.
[3:38]
Because my first instinct as a detective is that she took the money and ran away.
[3:44]
And so like, is she in any trouble that she would need money for?
[3:48]
Was there any history?
[3:49]
Does she have any criminal history?
[3:50]
Or does she have any relatives or friends or connections that would lead her to just
[3:55]
suddenly betray her employer and that kind of stuff?
[3:57]
So I've asked around about Rebecca Kretsch.
[4:00]
So you start asking around in all the pot shops and back alleys.
[4:04]
Outside of all the cabarets that won't let you in, just through the windows.
[4:08]
So we're going to do a little roll for that.
[4:10]
What you're going to do is you're going to take one basic die.
[4:13]
And how are you doing?
[4:14]
Do you have an appropriate trait that would fit this action, Elliot?
[4:18]
I think, I mean, the trait would be detective.
[4:21]
Yep, that works.
[4:22]
And do you have an appropriate tag?
[4:23]
A die for detective, and then I would use investigation and questioning.
[4:27]
Okay, and then if you want to add any dice from your pool, you can add that as well.
[4:32]
And you're going to want three successes.
[4:34]
So you'll probably want to roll like six or seven dice.
[4:39]
Okay, so I'm going to add, then I'll add three from my pool.
[4:42]
And I'm assuming you're doing this on your own without the help of these two
[4:45]
guys who are probably doing their own part of investigating, or not.
[4:48]
Oh yeah, this is, I don't want to reveal my, I think my guys, as much as I enjoy,
[4:54]
well, tolerate your company, I think my secretive, confidential informants would
[5:01]
be a little thrown off by me walking around with a rich jerk and a drug-addicted weirdo.
[5:07]
So I think I'll do this on my own.
[5:10]
Which one are you?
[5:11]
Which one are you, Live By Watcher?
[5:14]
I'd like to do these investigations without being interrupted by a beeping dishwasher.
[5:17]
So I think I'll just go on my own.
[5:21]
Okay, so I'll roll then, right?
[5:22]
Uh-huh, yep.
[5:25]
How many four, how many four fives and sixes did you roll?
[5:28]
I have two fours and one six.
[5:31]
Perfect, that's going to be enough.
[5:33]
So you, after asking around, you, the name, and the name sounded familiar to you.
[5:40]
And when, after asking around in a couple of back alleys and
[5:44]
talking to your favorite low-life, Dougie, you're reminded that...
[5:51]
Ah, Dougie, you're my favorite of all the low-lifes.
[5:55]
You're reminded that Rebecca Kretsch is better known as Bloody Becky,
[6:00]
and that she's a mob enforcer in town.
[6:04]
And that she, after coming back from the war, has been making a name for herself,
[6:11]
breaking legs, most likely in the employ of one Hubert Miller.
[6:17]
Oh, now my question is, so coming back from the war, was she a nurse,
[6:19]
or did she pretend to be a man?
[6:21]
This is before women were serving on the front lines.
[6:24]
In this world, Elliot, a world with aliens, women are serving on the front lines.
[6:29]
Okay, well that's great. You know what? More power to this world. I appreciate it.
[6:32]
Yeah.
