[0:11] today it's a flop house mini that's right it's a mini so when you look at the runtime and you're

[0:17] like oh wow did they mess up and not actually watch a movie well kind of i watched two movies

[0:22] but we'll talk about that in a second my name is stewart wellington i'm one of the hosts of

[0:27] the flop house and joining me are two great guys yep they're my regular co-hosts that and they'll

[0:40] faster i'm just thinking about like no i was just spending some time thinking about how i think all

[0:45] of us have the capability of starting the show like like really professionally for a while and then

[0:53] that it just like it veers off the road pretty quickly immediately usually as soon as the others

[0:58] are brought in uh-huh yeah well that's the thing it's like i'm driving on a mario kart level and i'm

[1:03] constantly thinking that's the shortcut that's the thing that's gonna let me jump all over those idiots

[1:08] always wrong i'm always in like a sand trap or i hit some kind of piranha plant but suddenly a blue

[1:14] shell hits you you're knocked off the course everyone passes you because the game itself cheats

[1:19] so oh wow take it down this is not this is not a controversial or a new opinion uh mario kart 64

[1:27] at least is a game where if you're playing just one player the if you get knocked off course every

[1:33] other character will pass you just the way the game do unlike real racing when that never happens

[1:40] but you know in the real world doesn't cheat against you well in real racing the cars that are close to

[1:45] you will pass you there's this there's physics that they have to follow yeah the real world doesn't

[1:50] cheat against you that's true life does that's true and it's also the distribution of blue shells

[1:55] and lightning bolts let's not come on well no anyway the system cheats against you dan but like

[2:00] physical reality does it's not like a bear is suddenly gonna pull a trick on you gravity did some

[2:06] pretty shady stuff to me the other day have you seen my testicles because gravity is not playing fair

[2:13] on the subject of reality cheating against us i don't know about you guys but the last year has been

[2:20] pretty hard for me okay i think it's been pretty hard for everybody too i could do a

[2:28] i could do a bit where i argued that the last year was terrific but i won't uh so the last year has

[2:34] been pretty hard a little thing called queen's gambit maybe you forgot best year ever my mistake yeah

[2:40] that was the thing it made me realize that if i just took enough drugs and played enough chess on the

[2:45] ceiling i would i don't know i don't that's the secret is drug-induced upside down ceiling chess that's

[2:51] how you went how you get through everything in life yeah the the outfits and the set design

[2:56] was incredible on that program but that's we're not talking about queen's game but we're going to be

[3:01] talking about other stuff today and we're talking about how at least in my professional life my non-podcast

[3:08] professional life i've been having a little bit of difficulty uh feeling like i'm in control i don't

[3:14] know about you guys i'm assuming a lot of people are going through this where you feel like you're at

[3:18] the whims of both a government a uh you know a pandemic that is horrible and on still ongoing

[3:27] uh and your fellow humans who suddenly you realize are maybe more selfish and dumber than you thought

[3:36] dan mr policeman they gave you all the clues that should not have come as a surprise dan that's true

[3:41] um so i don't know i've been in my in what little free time i do have i've been going to great lengths

[3:49] to find things that give me a sense of control and uh satisfaction and one of those things has

[3:56] wait is that why is that why that helper monkey you have a psychic link with has been murdering your

[4:00] enemies yes uh and my enemies weirdly enough the list keeps growing somehow it gets longer yeah

[4:15] discriminating monkeys are when it comes to varying levels of annoyance or obstacle irritation that's

[4:26] they all look the same to it yeah we all look the same it's also coupled with my poor drawing ability

[4:31] when i'm drawing my enemies on a piece of paper or a woolly willy um but so i've been playing uh i've

[4:39] been playing video games that's one of the ways that i've been able to get a little bit of control

[4:42] and the video game lately the thing that i uh has given me the most satisfaction lately is a game called

[4:50] hitman have you guys ever heard about hitman have you played a hitman game

[4:55] i'm familiar with the trailers for the movies in which timothy oliphant is bald uh-huh yes oh we'll get to

[5:02] that and i'm pretty sure i watched one of those movies but perhaps for this podcast i can't recall

[5:11] but uh i remember nothing about it i can only assume that it's based on the garth ennis joel mccray

[5:16] comic series from dc vertigo hitman isn't that the one where the hitman can read people's minds

[5:23] he has x-ray vision i don't think he can read people's mind actually it may not have been a vertigo

[5:28] title now that i think about it uh because it was in the dcu proper in that he threw up on batman's

[5:33] shoes and did all sorts of stuff like that yeah he's not i've confirmed that if i watched hitman it was

[5:38] not for this show just in case you guys were worried that you also yeah had lost some time oh no i know

[5:44] i've never seen any of these movies i i flop house live show viewers may have uh may have seen one of my

[5:49] live performances where i i really took down hitman movies not that series but movies about

[5:55] paid assassins which i don't think are cool now that i am a grown-up although i mean i feel like

[6:07] the sequel to the hitman's bodyguard that's right the hitman's wife's bodyguard trailer just dropped today

[8:16] so continue that's true so uh i i had i had put off uh the hitman franchise for a long time until

[8:25] recently they just came out with the third in the like current arc of hitman games and a friend got

[8:32] it for me and then that got me to go back and play hitman from 2016 but i guess the series has been

[8:38] around since like 2000 there's been the dawn of time yep the dawn of everybody hitman hitman have

[8:44] existed forever i feel like that sounds like a storyline from a hitman movie uh yeah that's

[8:50] part of the opening crawl is it assassin's creed is that the one where it's like a centuries long

[8:54] assassin's guild that's i i believe so i believe the i started playing the first assassin's creed game

[9:01] and i immediately began in the future entering a vr chamber and i'm like fuck this

[9:07] i'm sure it's probably cool but it was just at that point i was like not for me it was also the my uh

[9:16] uh school paper on hitman since the beginning of time hitman have killed for money yeah this is

[9:24] accurate i don't know if the since the beginning of time yeah it says since since the big bang what

[9:28] what was the big bang but just the sound of the first gun shooting the first paid target gun sound

[9:34] bazinga that that target of that target of course was nothingness the void so i had put off trying

[9:42] out these games because i don't know about like i'm assuming you don't know very much about it other

[9:46] than the maybe the trailer for the movie or pictures it kind of seems like and they have they

[9:51] barcodes on their necks right seems like it seems like a serious game about bald basuited hitmen

[9:58] with barcodes on the back of their heads and they're always carrying like twin nickel plated 45s like

[10:03] they're just bbw bald basuited what's that barcode about that's what it stands for that's what it

[10:09] said that's that's wow part of my google search the weird that like there are two b's but for the

[10:15] barcode one yeah yeah because you're wondering about the back door because bald bald and basuited

[10:21] speak for themselves but what's that barcode about baby w uh but so seeing that like seeing the ads

[10:28] always gave me the impression that they were going to be an act they're action games and they're going

[10:32] to be like grim or maybe stealth based but like definitely grim and maybe with like weird religious

[10:38] bullshit mixed in uh you know there there's like crosses or cross like images and all the uh posters

[10:46] but so i started playing the first hitman game and i gotta tell you it is not like that at all it is

[10:51] very silly there's almost no action anytime that i like pick up a fucking gun it's a mistake if i have

[10:57] to start shooting dudes that is not the point of the game both because i'm bad at it and also because

[11:02] almost immediately i get shot to death which doesn't happen in the movies as i'll talk about in a

[11:07] second no he the hero rarely gets shot to death but i think that's the the uh bonnie and clive

[11:13] now yeah i mean well i mean in the hitman movies dan but i guess in movies in general i mean i said

[11:19] rarely i didn't say never i didn't say yeah elliot's right we don't live in a world where bonnie and

[11:25] clive is the totality of movies because then what would i show my kids on movie night i don't want

[11:30] to show them bonnie and clive why not it's a great movie but they're not ready for it yeah they don't

[11:34] need to they don't they don't need to to know the uh the truth about uh melvin purvis yeah just yet

[11:39] yeah you gotta still keep believing he's a hero you gotta edge him on cars movies until you for the

[11:44] you want to give them the big climax hey you want to see another movie where people drive cars it's

[11:48] called bonnie and clive like not yet dad not ready for it the so uh they turn out to be much sillier

[11:56] than i expected they're mainly like you're you're basically plopped in a level that's like a big

[12:01] kind of like sandboxy world for instance in the first level you're at a paris uh uh fashion show

[12:08] that is in a museum and there's also an illegal like arms deal thing going on upstairs okay and now

[12:14] when you say sandboxy you mean like shovels pails uh you can pee you can find shovels there's probably

[12:21] kids pee don't know about pails i haven't gotten that far in the game yet now i i do have to say

[12:27] that i've only played the first of these games although i bought the other two because i was very

[12:32] excited about it so and like almost immediately you you run into a like a a possible storyline

[12:40] where you can uh you can take out and then impersonate a world famous male model who is also a

[12:47] spy and at that point i'm like this is not a serious like grim face game so much of the game

[12:53] is based on knocking dudes out and taking their clothes every every male uh character's clothes

[13:01] ought definitely fit you which is i mean that's great what a fantasy yeah what a fantasy of just

[13:08] being able to knock out anyone and take their clothes and take their clothes just just speaking as

[13:12] someone who has to return some jeans that i ordered by via the mail because i can't go to stores and

[13:17] they did not fit me to know that the clothes will fit me ahead of time would be an exciting thing i gotta

[13:29] something i learned something i learned about elliot and jenco like the size of elliot and jenco

[13:35] he would look like you know like a like one of those sorry board game pawns that's true well

[13:43] something i learned when i when i shopping for pants when i was a young man was that apparently

[13:48] there are two kinds of short people there are three skinny short guys and i'm one of them and

[13:54] then there are hundreds and hundreds of very fat short men because i would find all these pants where

[13:58] it was like a 29 leg and a 45 waist and i'm like i can't how is this the only pant you have in the

[14:03] store this is crazy i guess i'll have to invest in what belts what would you do dude did you wear belts

[14:11] and you stuff a pillow in your in your pants yeah i just strap on my norbit suit put the pants on over

[14:16] that cool i think this is uh the place to start you know start pitching your idea for your uh

[14:22] what what is it uh small and small store i don't know i was trying to think of the opposite of a big

[14:29] and tall i mean it's like a kid's store dan yeah i see uh elliot is oddly quiet i think he's looking

[14:38] up uh ways to burn his back for making fun of his love of jenco jeans so i started playing this game

[14:44] i love it it's so much fun it's every episode is like a puzzle i think one of the mackleroys

[14:49] described them as like tony hawk but for murder and it's totally true like each level you're trying

[14:55] to find new ways to murder your targets personal favorite uh was when i think it really clicked for

[15:01] me when i found out i could push one target off a balcony and have them land on another target

[15:06] it's amazing it was so great uh so wait did that kill them yeah because they fell like three stories

[15:13] oh okay that's fair i thought maybe it was just like you push them over their back like like shoving

[15:18] somebody in a prank and not to not to go too deep into spoiler territory but of course in order to

[15:23] accomplish that i had to steal the fireworks display control so i could get them to go outside to look

[15:29] at the fireworks display i love the idea that of an assassin's plan that hinges on the victim being

[15:36] interested in fireworks and having a remote control to set them off and i haven't even we haven't even

[15:43] gotten into the exploding golf ball yet guys but so i i love this game so much it's so much fun i'm

[15:50] taking like it is uh it is you know the one light in my life right now plus my wife i love you charlene

[15:57] um but i but very much she's in a secondary position to the hitman video game franchise i mean that's the

[16:04] thing she she rarely brings uh exploding golf balls into my life or lets me kill somebody with an antique

[16:12] cannon or tricks a trick a target into thinking i'm the ghost of his dead mother and let me kill him

[16:18] with a plague doctor's knife yeah so uh the love of these games led me down a dark path

[16:26] and uh the other day you've started killing people for real because to see if the joy

[16:32] holt brings over into the real life it does not you've felt nothing but guilt and sorrow since then

[16:36] uh you would think elliot but that's not the case i love it i am i'm only happier uh i've listened

[16:44] i've started listening to a lot of huey lewis in the news um i watch myself in the mirror all the time

[16:50] yeah you bought a clear raincoat for some reason yeah some reason wink

[16:56] uh i said that because you know it's not a visual medium podcast so uh no the dark path i went down

[17:03] is of course watching the 2007 feature film hitman starring timothy oliphant now this movie is i'm

[17:10] assuming inspired by the an earlier uh arc of the games before i started playing them uh and i gotta

[17:17] tell you not a very good movie dan well i'm sure watched it due to his love of timothy oliphant in

[17:23] action movies and you do not remember a lick of it right uh no i mean it don't lick your movies yeah i mean

[17:31] oliphant like has so much charisma and i i what i remember is that not being there in that movie you

[17:39] would be correct yeah he uh i believe in an interview he even said something like while he

[17:44] was making it the whole time he's like why did they cast me for this like why didn't they cast

[17:50] vin diesel he would have been great in this yeah god because yeah in this case it's basically like

[17:57] it feels like a knockoff transporter movie he's just running around st petersburg russia getting

[18:03] into trouble he's framed for murdering somebody he very rarely knocks people out and changes their

[18:09] and steals their clothes does he at all uh he he he he steals clothes once and then immediately is

[18:18] spotted like that's the opposite of how the game works at that point yeah it's crazy the the there was

[18:26] one moment where i'm like oh man he's actually going to do what happens in the game all the time

[18:31] that's he makes a he makes a target drink a poison that is nor in the game it's rat poison but it's

[18:39] something to make him sick target goes to the bathroom normally in the game what happens is that

[18:44] agent 47 that's the hero's name agent 40 that's who you play uh agent 40 in the game he would normally

[18:50] go up and drown him in the toilet that's his like signature move i've done that shit a million times

[18:55] this does sound like a fun goofy game this does sound like a silly fun family friendly game

[19:00] it's so great drowning your victim in the toilet game yeah i mean we should we should like screen

[19:05] to screen that shit right get get the boys uh watching it you could watch you give me tips on how i can

[19:12] uh kill people we should we'll talk about this after the show the boys would love that well one of them

[19:17] would so the one chance one time he does uh poison a guy and follows him into the bathroom instead of

[19:23] drowning him he just pulls out some guns and starts blasting dudes in the head it's so boring

[19:27] like i can watch any movie and see that happen i don't always get to see somebody get drowned in a

[19:32] toilet unless of course i'm a big hit man uh and and there's also like a little bit of a love story

[19:38] in there uh which is weird because it's like this character doesn't love anything the only thing he

[19:44] loves is changing clothes and you know coming up with inventive ways to kill people for money

[19:49] exactly like i don't want to see like who kubert falls in love with that's crazy i guess wait wait

[20:01] not a love story i mean i was about to say pac-man but pac there's a mrs pac-man right yeah but that's

[20:47] one step away from a dirty like ralph bakshi cartoon right yeah yeah probably yeah uh so after

[20:55] watching that movie you know it was kind of a bummer but you know what i was undeterred so i

[20:59] decided to fire up hitman agent 47 the second hitman movie that is not a sequel it is kind of a reboot

[21:08] and it is also not really related to the video games this case they ditched timothy oliphant they're

[21:13] like we don't need america's cowboy and they replaced him with uh the actor rupert friend who i remembered

[21:21] from homeland i think i don't know uh and this is again like this is more of an actiony uh actiony

[21:27] movie uh in this case they cast agent 47 the titular character uh as more of like a terminator

[21:34] type figure where for a while you think he's the bad guy and that zachary quinto is the good guy

[21:39] although i gotta tell you as soon as i see zachary quinto show up i'm like he's probably the bad guy

[21:44] you know and that's why that's why i stopped watching those star trek movies with you and then also

[21:48] didn't watch the boys in the band with you because i did not i did not need to just be yelling out

[21:53] he there's the bad guy there's the villain yeah yeah anytime somebody's left watch out for spot

[21:59] anytime they're left alone in a room with him like watch out you know oh he's doing you dirty

[22:04] the um so zachary quinto's in it and early on juergen prochnow shows up and you're like oh great

[22:11] here's you know juergen prochnow's getting a book that's great later on you know what big surprise

[22:16] kieran heinz shows shows up so i was like i was satisfied with juergen prochnow but you're giving

[22:21] me kieran heinz i am fucking lucky today i just i just wanted to i just wanted to mention something

[22:26] earlier you said they try to set up agent 47 like he's the bad guy he is the bad guy he people pay

[22:32] him to kill other people so he's he is a villain okay i you know i guess you know your morality

[22:38] i mean if you want to go by your conventional you know uh uh religious morality where killing

[22:44] people is bad we're i i guess when i say bad guy good guy i'm you know we're talking traditional

[22:50] protagonist antagonist um i forget sometimes that you are a follower of the church of thelema and that

[22:56] do what that wilt is the whole of the law and so exactly you know what go with it yes uh-huh uh

[23:01] now in this case agent 47 swaps clothes a couple times thumbs up he uses a couple of like uh he uses

[23:08] a couple of like gadgets that's cool i guess uh he does he's a little too active does he ever swap

[23:14] clothes with someone who's just really inappropriate for him to swap clothes with like in the video

[23:18] movie in the movie like the hamburglar or like no two kids in a trench coat who are trying to get

[23:23] into a movie or something i mean once again we're talking about a character that in the first game

[23:29] you can swap clothes with a male model and then walk the runway before completing your job he's like

[23:36] human target you know he becomes the person yeah he's great uh he's not great in the movie he flips

[23:42] around a lot which i don't think basically i was reading a reddit thread earlier on hitman

[23:46] where they posit the question can agent 47 do a flip and i don't know if he can i mean i guess if

[23:53] the role required him to that would make sense but i don't know i've been thinking about it for hours

[23:58] yeah i think here's something i want i want to get back to the clothes because that's really

[24:01] what piqued my interest is amazing what if he needs to he needs to sneak in somewhere the only person

[24:07] who's nearby is elton john dressed up as donald duck he knocks out elton john doesn't take the

[24:12] whole costume just the clothing part of the donald duck costume now he's walking around wearing a

[24:16] sailor cap sailor jacket no pants just penis hanging out is is that going to get in the way of his

[24:22] finishing the mission or what i mean i think it i think it depends um you're gonna have to double

[24:28] make sure that the uh that the sentries uh are don't have a little white circle above their head

[24:34] that indicates that they if they had the white circle that would mean they're on to you or whatever

[24:39] and then you'd have to be a little more stealthy but i don't think so i mean i think that sounds

[24:43] like a pretty good disguise right i think especially when he does the elton john accent and he's like

[24:47] hello governor just going over to pp any gonna play a few songs over there on the barbie he doesn't

[24:53] know wow that's that's fucking incredible did you ellie did you just watch rocket man i just watched

[24:59] rocket man but not the elton john rocket man it was the uh was it uh harlan williams rocket man yes

[25:06] that was the it was indeed harlan williams so uh to be honest i think hitman agent 47 despite having

[25:15] no tim the oliphant turned out to be a better movie uh but was it as good was it really the hitman

[25:22] experience i was looking for no should i have spent my time just playing more hitman probably uh but

[25:29] then i wouldn't have had all these great stories to tell you guys yeah well you have these stories of

[25:34] the expanded hitmaniverse uh so uh you can check in later uh i guess next week we'll be doing me doing

[25:42] the exact same thing but for mortal combat in honor of the mortal combat movie coming out uh i mean

[26:15] mortal combat 9 but he's not in the story mode i mean he doesn't fit into the universe he's just

[26:20] there for battles uh and he is fit into the how could he fit into the universe full of cyborgs and

[26:25] four-armed monster men how would freddy fit into that actually a pretty good argument ed boone is

[26:31] probably going to come uh i don't know finish me now i will say in the old mortal combat movie i did i

[26:37] haven't seen it since i saw the theaters as a young person as a teenager and i remember thinking that

[26:42] goro who is a four-armed giant monster man was introduced with very little fanfare he was kind of
